Gulf Update

Yesterday, we flew through really bad weather in Memphis to finally arrive on our Gulf coast vacation. Grammy is watching the kiddos at our house while we are here.

After landing in Gulfport, we picked up our rental car and got a free upgrade to a Dodge Charger. We headed into Biloxi to go on the shrimp boat tour before the oil washes in here. It was a really interesting tour to see how the shrimp we eat is caught. We also got to see a lot of different types of fish that we have never seen before. The shrimp boat owners have a brown pelican that flies onto their boat during tours. The named her Lucy and are very worried about keeping her safe from the oil. They have devised a plan to place fish on the boat daily so she can live on the boat and stay out of the water. Hopefully it will work.

We visited the Hard Rock Casino for a few minutes, but the smoke was too much for me. We then tried to eat at a restaurant on the beach across from our hotel, but after 45 minutes of waiting for a po'boy, we left and drove to Ocean Springs to eat supper. Kurt had 1/2 of a shrimp po'boy and 1/2 of a crab meat po'boy. I had 1/2 of a shrimp po'boy and 1/2 of a fish po'boy. They were really good and I brought back most of the shrimp po'boy for breakfast this morning. We then took a nice stroll along the beach and found some sea shells for Grammy. All in all it was a good day, but Biloxi is going to be changing in the next 24 hours with the oil soon coming ashore.

Today, we are heading for Mobile. We will probably drive along the coast and stop if we see something we want to do. Tomorrow, I will work from the hotel, and Kurt is going to see the USS Alabama and the USS Drum submarine.
