Air Force One

We got back from Lincoln just in time to watch Air Force One take off from the airport yesterday. We decided we would try to get as close to the airport as possible, and so we headed that direction when we got closer to Grand Island. The traffic on the roads near the airport were starting to get packed with people who had the same idea as us. The roads directly near the airport were completely shut off. We parked at the Humane Society which is directly south of the airport. We could see the plane from our vantage point. The crowds kept gathering, and the excitement grew. Soon we could see the motorcade and helicopters were flying over the crowds to make sure the area was secure. Then we watched the plane quickly taxi down the runaway and take off right in front of us. The plane stayed lower than normal planes during the takeoff, so that was really neat to see. Our friend took pictures for us as we didn't have our camera along. After the plane left, we quickly got in the car and avoided the traffic jam. We got home fast, and watched some of the news coverage of the visit. Even though President Bush isn't our favorite, we still were excited to see Air Force One takeoff. That is something you don't see very often in your lifetime.
