New electrical service
Yesterday the electrician finally arrived to change out our electrical mast on the meter box. The city stopped by about a month ago and told us we had to get it fixed. We went on vacation, then the electrician went on vacation. She stood us up last week and showed up as a surprise yesterday morning. I was expecting to spend the whole day working on my Economics class. Plans changed fast. She looked over the project and decided to call the city electrical department over to see if she could just fasten the mast to our house instead of replacing the meter box and mast. When the city electrical supervisor came over, the project became a lot larger than originally planned. He called in another electrical inspector to come over with the city code book. (Not a good sign!) He said our pool was too close to the overhead electrical line according to the city code. We either needed to move our 6000 gallon pool or have the line moved to the other side of our property. We chose to move the line, so a new meter was installed and a simple 2-3 hour project became an all day project in the pouring rain. We were without electricity all afternoon, but now we are hooked up again. We almost didn't get the OK to get hooked back up because the electrician wasn't finished when the inspector came late in the day. Then the electrical crew almost didn't get things hooked up due to a downpour of rain and some lightening. I got up at 3:30am this morning to type up my homework that I hand wrote yesterday, as the teacher won't take it unless it is typed. The electrician and city inspector will be here this afternoon, so hopefully all will go better today than yesterday. We are not looking forward to the bill, but according to the city this had to be done. I didn't tell the inspectors that our mast has been in the same condition since we bought the house 13 years ago, or that our pool has been set up in the same spot for the last five years.
